This January recruitment period proves to be a time of significant rumour and potential major deals. A number of high-profile stars find themselves connected to moves away from their current clubs. We examine a selection of the key names who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, it appears a significant move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal featuring a substantial release clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This England centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Liverpool falling through. With his deal set to expire in the close season, January is the club's final opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January departure remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun only a handful of league games. It is understood the London club would be open to a sale for the right valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

R. Neves

This Portugal midfielder could be set for a return to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now only twenty-eight, while his agreement ending in the summer, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following new coach Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a winter departure seems highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The proven English striker has continued finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of being in the national squad. However, arranging a deal presents major hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous salary make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as admirers.

The exciting Turkey attacker is in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, a host of English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a deal valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
